The Last Polaroids / Municipal Parks 2009-2011

These images were made by manipulating an Sx-70 instant camera to take several hour-long exposures of municipal parks in the San Francisco Bay Area. Using last authentic Polaroid film produced in 2007 and set to expire in 2009, the resulting photographs combine reciprocity failure, condensation, and surrounding interference from mercury vapor street lamps to achieve their glow. These prolonged “instant” prints highlight the artificial nature of these human made spaces while honoring a medium of a bygone era.
